Wyeth Maitreya Byrd, 33, passed away in his home in Denver, Colorado, Tuesday April 16, 2018, due to lingering aftereffects of a brain re-injury in January 2017. He was born January 29, 1985 (on his grandfather's birthday), in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Predeceased by his grandparents James E. Byrd and Helen B. Byrd of Suffolk, Virginia, Maitreya is survived by his lifelong best friends mother Betty Byrd and brother Sabien Byrd, and his estranged sister Charisma Byrd.
Maitreya had unusual imagination, creativity, wisdom, insight, and great wit. He saw everything from a different, often magical perspective. Some people refer to him as angelic and saintly. Traveling with him on the roller coaster of his life, I cannot deny those virtues in him. Character is proven by ones life, the cards he is dealt, and how he plays them out. Maitreya always played fair even to his own detriment. The circumstances of his demise corroborate the truth of his spirituality. Maitreya definitely was a man of God.
A special memorial offering was made for Maitreya at the temple in Mayapur, India, on April 28, Lord Nrsimhadeva's appearance day, an auspicious occasion for him during his transition from this life.
A private celebration of life will be held at Byrd Ridge, Colorado. No date has been set.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Goodwill Industries.
