William “Odad” Jr.

Bill Witt was born in 1926 and raised in Detroit and Cincinnati where his father was a minister in both cities. In 1944 he was drafted by the U.S. Army and while on a troopship crossing the Pacific, the war ended. Bill was then stationed in the Philippines, where he worked in an Army field hospital which was still transporting the injured back to the United States.

Following the war he returned to Cincinnati, where he attended the University of Cincinnati and receive both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Geology. Immediately following graduation in 1950, he married Eileen Meckstroth from St. Marys, Ohio, and the two of them honeymooned as they drove to Texas where he began his first job with Chevron. His oil career with Chevron moved Bill and his family to many cities in Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma. In 1971 he was moved to Perth, Western Australia where he enjoyed a three-year term with Western Australia Petroleum until 1974. He and Eileen then moved to Littleton, Colorado where he eventually retired.

Bill and Eileen were active in the First Presbyterian Church of Littleton. They were avid travelers across the United States on back roads enjoying the scenery along the way. They were also extensive world travelers visiting 6 continents. What a team they were!

Bill is survived by his wife Eileen of 69 years, his son Bill of Winterthur, Switzerland, Lorie Loar (Michael) of Littleton, Colorado, Nan Waugh (Jim) also of Littleton, and Ellen Filley (Thomas) of Deer Park, Illinois. He was dearly loved by his grandchildren Jesse Loar (Sierra), Tim Loar (Jen), Matthew Loar (Taylor), Abigail Loar, Eleni Filley and Nathaniel Filley, and 4 great grandchildren. He was a selfless, loving and generous man. All who met him remarked on his kindness.

Dad always had a wanderlust and taught us all to appreciate the world around us. We would take an extensive road trip each summer back to visit the grandparents in Ohio, in our station wagon, with daily picnics on the tailgate. One of our fondest memories when we were taking any trip, was Dad explaining the geology of the rock formations we were passing. Our favorite line crossing bridges was "Is there quicksand in that river?"

Bill was a very beloved patriarch of the family, known for his wisdom, his humor, his love of music (Johnny Cash and John Philip Sousa) but most of all for his unconditional love. His legacy is his family, and he is greatly missed.

Memorial service at First Presbyterian Church of Littleton with burial at Fort Logan cemetery, with date to be determined.

One of Dad's favorite sayings was "As you ramble on your journey, whate'er be your goal, keep your eye upon the doughnut, and not upon the hole".
