William "Bill" Stewart Mednick, 89, of Long Beach, California, passed away on March 25, 2017 peacefully in his sleep in Lone Tree, Colorado surrounded by family. Bill was born in Des Moines, Iowa on July 7, 1927. Bill spoke fondly of his early years growing up in Casper, Wyoming where he made many lifelong friends. Bill was married to Judy Mednick in 1970; they were married for 44 years.
He graduated from Los Angeles High School in June 1945 and joined the U.S. Navy. After leaving the navy, Bill worked with his father who owned two movie theaters in Los Angeles. Bill went to college at UC Berkley graduating with a BA in history in 1951. Bill married his first wife in 1953 and with his two children moved to London, England in 1957. Living in London, Bill worked for the U.S. Office of Naval Research. Divorced from his first wife, Bill returned to California and began teaching history at Long Beach Polytechnic High School and then for about 25 years at Lakewood High School. Bill lived in his most recent home in University Park Estates, Long Beach from 1971 until 2017. Bill continued his education and earned an MA degree from Loyola Marymount University in 1970. Bill and Judy loved to travel, especially in Mexico and Europe.
Bill is survived by his two children Jay Mednick (Lou) and Anne Eselun, and four grandchildren.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents Joseph Frank Mednick and Bessie Ida Prusiner and his wife Judy Mednick.
