William Brown

William Andrew Brown was born July 29th, 1944 in Cleveland, Ohio.
He was the third of five children born to Ora Lee and Thirley Parson Brown.
Affectionately called "Butch" by his family, and later in life "Wild Bill" by his friends – however you referred to him, with his wisdom, intellect, stories, witty sense of humor, and his signature style western clothes, you knew upon meeting him, there was no one else like him.

He attended A.J. Rickoff, Hamilton, and East High School before enlisting in the United States Army. After successfully completing his tour of duty overseas in Germany, he returned to Cleveland, Ohio where he remained until relocating to Denver, Colorado in 1981. By trade a draftsman, he also worked as a linesman for the Illuminating Company and various dry cleaners.

William enjoyed reading, discussing politics, playing cards, and dancing, be it to Motown songs to which he often performed James Brown moves-which also included the splits, or participating in Country Swing dance competitions throughout Colorado, he was a standout entertainer on any dance floor.

Cooking was another of his passions, with one of his favorites dishes being Chicken, especially the chicken necks and backs that no one else wanted. He also enjoyed many unique foods such as racoon, ostrich, eel, pheasant, elk, and quail, to name a few.

He was most proud, of being active with both Bill W and the VA where he actively participated in his own recovery for almost 34 years, sponsored other members, coordinated events and activities, and most recently, was selected to participate in a VA video on palliative care for veterans.

William was preceded in death by his parents: Ora Lee and Thirley Parson Brown, siblings: Juanita L. Brown, Joyce L. Roberts, Everett J. Brown, and nephew, Kirk A. Roberts, Sr.
He is survived by his sister: Anna M. Rogers of Cleveland, Ohio, nephews: Kevin A. Guin of Scottsbluff, Nebraska and Michael A. Rogers of Santa Monica, California; and Niece: Karen A. Grissom (Dorico Sr.) of Denver, Colorado as well as a host of relatives, and many friends who were like family to him.
