Wendell Kimbrough

Wendell Harris Kimbrough was born July 9, 1975 to Bettye Watts Kimbrough and Buford Colton Kimbrough in Madison, TN.

Wendell went from his Earthly home to his Heavenly home Aprill 22, 2023, surrounded by the family he loved so well.

Wendell married Holly McLeary Kimbrough (in a Gatlinburg gazebo, followed by a UT Vols football game) Saturday, September 7, 2002.  He and Holly started their lives together in Pleasant View, Tennessee.  They were honored to be one of many generations living and loving in that special country home on his family’s land.

Wendell is survived by his wife Holly Elise Kimbrough; sons, Trenton Blake Kimbrough, Brandon Isaac Kimbrough (wife Katie, daughter Kaelyn), and Maston Harris Kimbrough; mother, Bettye Sue Kimbrough; brothers, Christopher Alan Kimbrough of Franklin, Tennessee, and Michael Wayne Kimbrough (wife Charlotte, children Celeste, Colton, Kai, and Alexander) of Pensacola, Florida.

Wendell is preceded in death by his father Buford and infant daughter Lily Grace.

Wendell was a funny, full of life, forever young, fearless work of art.  He was drawn to architecture in High School, where he drafted plans for his dream home.  He would have been an Architect but said “8 years of college is a bit too much.  Especially, since mom helped me with homework into the wee hours of the morning on more than one occasion”.  It is fitting that the Lord led him to Earl Swensson Associates, before calling him home.  He gave him the desires of his heart.

Wendell chose farming straight out of high school, working on the Teasley family farm in Pleasant View.  He loved it so much, he dreamt of it the week before going to Heaven.  He said, “Go to the tractor and get his glasses.”  When he awoke and was asked who’s glasses, he said, “Andy Teasley”.

A few years after high school, Wendell found his calling in fireproofing and insulation.  He learned the trade as a laborer, apprenticed as an estimator, and within 10 years was starting fireproofing divisions in companies.  He never burned bridges.  In fact, all the bridges he built were continuously traveled throughout his life.  Wendell’s knowledge, work ethic, personality, down-to-earth demeanor, and passion served him well.  Employers, employees, colleagues, clients, vendors, municipalities, trades, and everyone else he met respected Wendell.  They knew he was an expert in his field, responsible, reliable, and trustworthy.

Wendell’s family, friends, and community enjoyed his quick wit and “speak your mind” personality.  He preferred straight forwardness and honesty, often simply exiting the conversation if they weren’t present or he couldn’t be himself.

When he was a kid, Wendell told his mom he wouldn’t live to be an old man.  When they were dating, he told Holly, “When it’s my time, it’s my time. I’m not afraid of dying and I’ll never be over 25 in my mind.”  He enjoyed life and loved well.  To know him and be loved by him were an honor.

Celebration of Life will be Thursday, April 27th Doors will open at 5pm for visitation.
