Theodore M. Fish, known to his family and friends as Ted, died March10, 2017 due to complications from heart surgery at St Joseph's hospital in Denver with his wife by his side.
Born in New York City, the borough of Manhattan, on August 11, 1946 to Margaret and Theodore B Fish, Ted and his family moved to East Stroudsburg, PA shortly after his birth.
He attended East Stroudsburg High School and graduated from East Stroudsburg College with a BA in Political Science in 1971. Throughout his life he had several occupations including a concrete mason and a financial market instrument investor but was best known as an artist.
In 1975 he married Louise Altemose. They lived in Stroudsburg, PA until 1982 when they moved to Denver where he became enamored with clay. He earned a BFA with a concentration in ceramics from Metro State University in 2001. He was known for his weird ceramic head sculptures. The head sculpture in the river rocks in front of the SteamPlant was his creation.
Ted and Louise discovered Salida in the fall of 2004 and moved here in the spring 2005. They found this small town with an art community just perfect for their dreams.
He is survived by his wife, sister Maryann Schimpf and other family members and dear friends.
A celebration of life will be held in the spring in Salida. Memorial contributions can be made to the Friends of the SteamPlant, PO Box, 758, Salida, CO 81201
