Theodore Becker

December 11, 1942 — December 22, 2014

Ted was born in Greeley, Colorado on December 11, 1942. His early years were in Denver until his parents moved to Aurora in 1952. He was baptized at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Denver in January 1943 and confirmed at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in 1957. He attended both Denver and Aurora Public Schools.

Ted actively attended Sunday school, summer vacation Bible school, and Bible study at St. Matthew. He was active in the Luther League and attended the International Convention in Miami Beach, FL in 1961 that had such notable speakers as Martin Luther King, Jr., Werner Von Braun, Bishop Lilje of East Germany, and singer Paul Robeson.

Ted volunteered for the Army in January 1964. After his basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri he was stationed at Ft. Devens, Mass and later spent 18 months on Okinawa. He was honorably discharged after 3 years at the rank of Specialist 4th class.

Ted worked at Samsonite Corp. for 19 years and became the youngest supervisor there. After Samsonite closed the plant in Denver, he worked as a supervisor at Stapleton Airport doing passenger security.

Ted loved to travel and visited many different states. He also visited Europe 3 times, visiting Germany, Switzerland, Netherlands, France, Italy, England, Ireland, and Scotland on his various visits. He liked to tell about standing outside Windsor Castle and giving a shout out to Prince Charles standing on the grounds, who looked up and waved back.

Ted was an avid reader and had a substantial library in his home. He enjoyed yard work until he could no longer do it. Family gatherings were always important to him. He loved music, from classical to modern pop, his favorite being Big Band.

Ted completed his baptismal journey in life on December 22, 2014 after a long illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Marian (Kauffman) Becker. He is survived by his sister, Kathleen Bell (Kathy) of Denver, niece Marian Dee Jaeger and her husband Eric of Aurora, nephew Matthew Bell of Louisiana, 7 great-nephews and nieces, and uncle Ben Kauffman (Doris) of Loveland, CO as well as many cousins and friends.
