Steven James Atkins passed from this life on November 9, 2018. He was born April 12, 1948 to James Caldwell Atkins and Margaret Lucille McCormick in Midway, Ohio. He was the second youngest of five children.
Steve was a Firefighter for the Springfield, Ohio Fire Department and he also was an accomplished Master Electrician. Steve was head of the Maintenance Department at School District 27-J and his last career move was with the City of Longmont as the Senior Electrical Inspector.
Steve became a proud father of two sons, Wayne and John, through a previous marriage and would moved to Colorado in 1981.
In 1992, Steve met his wife, Maureen who has three children, Dylan, Morgan and Lee and they were happily married June 28, 1996.
Steve and Maureen loved to dance to the Blues and Rock and Roll and spent many weekends bar-b-cuing with family and friends. Steve loved to ride! He enjoyed heading down the roads and highways on his beautiful Shadow Areo. Steve's best little buddy was and is his dog Jack. Steve took Jack with him to restaurants, Home Depot, Wal-Mart etc... Steve would state, "He's my service dog... he helps me find where I parked".
Steve was known to be quick-witted with a knack for humorous stories; a few of his stories were actually true. He was an avid, terrible golfer which was confirmed by his best friend "Tinker." Steve will be greatly missed, always adored and loved through memories and those stories he told
Steve is survived by his siblings Marilyn Nicholson and Erick Atkins; his wife Maureen Nerim-Atkins; his children Steven Wayne Atkins, John Atkins, Dylan Nerim, Morgan Nerim, Lee Nerim; his grandchildren Mekenzie Atkins, Steven Ryne Atkins, Marissa Price, Madison Atkins, Kylee Atkins, Keean Atkins, Mason Atkins, Tiana Montoya, Brianna Andrade-Montoya, Gabriel Montoya, Lexie Carpenter, Jade Trunkenbolz, Jordan Trujillo; and many other family, friends, and loved ones who were dear to him.
He was preceded in death by his father James and mother Margaret, his brother Raymond, his sister Francis, his grandson Nolan, and his granddaughter Lexie.
We are planning to have finger foods, meat/cheese/vegetable trays. If you would like to bring finger food type appetizers please let us know.
Steve's Celebration of Life will be held November 24, 2018 from 3pm - 6pm at the Arvada VFW located at 5340 Marshall Street, Arvada, CO 80002. Guests are asked to come celebrate with stories, laughs and love.
