Stephen Close Hagen passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, July 11, 2017. He was born in Great Bend, Kansas and graduated from the University of Kansas before moving east to attend the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He spent most of his career based in New York City while living in Ridgewood, New Jersey, but he savored his retirement in Denver near the mountains. He was a self-taught builder, starting with a simple bookcase and eventually renovating every room in his 100-year-old house to make it just so. You could find him most evenings on his lakeside patio, watching the wildlife and colors of the sunset.
He loved music, books, and Bombay on the rocks with a lemon twist. Most of all he loved his family and the many dear friends he made throughout his life all over the country. He leaves his wife Doris, his daughters Kelly and Beth, his sisters Laura and Pat, and his grandchildren, Carl, Jessica, Grace and Josephine. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations to support the Colorado Symphony: http://coloradosymphony.org/Support/Make-a-Donation
