Stella V. Lopez passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home in Eldorado at Santa Fe, on the morning of May 27, 2017 at approximately 7:30 a.m. Stella was born on June 8, 1923 to Manual Velarde and Rumaldita Alire Velarde in Santa Fe, NM. She married Jose E. Lopez of Santa Fe, NM on May 6, 1946 in Santa Fe, NM and they enjoyed 62 years of blissful marriage until his passing in January 2008.
Stella was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, father-in-law and mother-in-law Federico M. and Magdalena M. Lopez; brothers Ramon Velarde and wife Della, Manuel Velarde, Jr.; sisters Margaret Montoya and husband Herman, Mary Montoya, Josie Montoya and husband Rudolpho; sisters-in-law Rosalie Velarde and Ida M Lopez; brother-in-law Juan R Lopez.
Stella is survived by her daughters Anna Lopez and Frances Sanchez of Santa Fe, Sandy Custer and husband Terry of Rio Rancho, NM; her son Fred G. Lopez and wife Terry of Santa Fe; granddaughters Nichole Jones (Shannon) Harlie Custer, Francella and Melissa Lopez; great grandchildren Kaylei Rae, Jared and Trent Jones and Isabella Lopez.
She is also survived by her sister Rita Lopez; brother Joe Velarde; sister-in-law Maria Rita Lopez and brothers-in-law Benny Montoya, Antonio A. Lopez and Furgencio P. Lopez and wife Angie all from Santa Fe, NM. She is also survived by a very special friend Rosina Garcia, plus numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in the Velarde-Montoya-Lopez and Gonzales families of Santa Fe, NM.
Stella loved her family and friends and enjoyed her annual trips to Laughlin, NV and area casinos. She was a loving homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She will be missed dearly by all.
A special thanks to El Corazon Hospice and all the staff, especially her nurse Mary and Rev. Hampton Mabry.
Funeral services will be held at the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi located at 231 Cathedral Pl, Santa Fe, NM 87501 on June 8, 2017 a rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m. followed by a memorial mass at 11:00 a.m. and internment at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 3:00 p.m.
