Stanley Phillip Horney passed away peacefully of natural causes on Monday October 9th, 2023. Stanley was born in Greensboro, NC on February 17th, 1954 to Robert Carl Horney and Betty Anne Caudle Horney, both deceased.
In his youth, Stanley was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church. Stanley attended Greensboro city schools and graduated from Page High School in Greensboro, NC in 1972. He joyfully attended his 50th class reunion in the fall of 2022 where he was able to visit with long-time friends and family. Stanley enlisted in the Army in 1972 and was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. He attended Rutledge College in Greensboro and obtained an Associate’s degree in Accounting. Stanley enjoyed being a student of history and specifically spent much time researching genealogy for his family. He was especially close with his Grandmother Blanche W. Caudle and his Aunts Jean and Jo. Stanley was a proud gay man who was active in promoting gay rights and activism throughout his adult life. He was an active member of the Denver Boys of Leather and the Imperial Court of the Rocky Mountain Empire. He celebrated many years of sobriety and was active in service to his AA community. He enjoyed the fellowship of many close friends in all the activities he participated. During his down time, you can be sure he was catching an episode or two of “his girls” as he was an avid viewer of Golden Girls, having seen the entire series several times over.
