Dr. Stanley J. Bodner

Dr. Stanley J. Bodner, of Mt. Juliet, TN, died October 1, 2022 at age 81. Born December 12, 1940 in Newark NJ, he was the son of Edith and Herman Bodner.

Dr. Bodner is survived by husband Daniel C. Luther and by sister Amy Bodner Eglowstein, husband Ira, Syracuse, NY; nieces Dr. Marla Eglowstein Findling, husband Amir, Syracuse, NY; Sheila Eglowstein Conway, husband Charlie, Seattle, WA; nephew Howard Eglowstein, wife Emlee Kohler, Nashau, NH; Cousins Michele Bodner, husband Chet Feldman, Aspen, CO; Elliot Bodner, wife Carol Zeitchik Bodner, Columbia, MD; and great nieces and nephews Hope Amyver, Davi Rich, Sophinnian Rich, and Fen Conway. His relatives were very important in his life and always close to his heart.

He was a decorated U.S. Navy veteran proudly serving in medical units on foreign soil during service to his country.

As a graduate from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine with the degree of Doctor of Medicine and specialty degrees in the fields of Infectious Diseases and Internal Medicine Dr. Bodner was an exemplary physician upholding his sworn Hippocratic Oath throughout a distinguished medical career. At the forefront of the AIDS epidemic Dr. Bodner was a prominent specialist in AIDS treatment caring lovingly for hundreds of individuals becoming the only family to some having been rejected by their own families. Through the years he received numerous accolades for his service contribution to the AIDS community. Because of his AIDS expertise he was invited to speak in Russia on AIDS regimens/strategies in the 90’s. In 2013 Dr. Bodner was invited to participate in meetings at the BEDFORD STEM CELL RESEARCH FOUNDATION finding the programs to be insightful into the present and future of medical advancement and care.

In addition to Infectious Diseases, Internal Medicine was Dr. Bodner’s other specialization area with a full practice for 40 years treating both the usual and unusual medical occurrences before retiring in April of 2017. Finding each individual’s case interesting he worked to restore/stabilize the patient’s health or, if necessary, provide the best end of life care available.

Medicine was truly Dr. Bodner’s life’s passion and after retirement continued reading the latest medical journals and participating in online education courses remaining accredited and up-to-date in his areas of expertise…always learning until his death.

As a lover of the arts, especially classical music, and art itself, Dr. Bodner was an avid world traveler researching and planning his own itineraries. Speaking seven languages fluently he visited locales, both off and on the beaten path, studying the cultures of others while taking in art, historical places, enjoying regional foods, and listening to beautiful concerts on all continents with the exception of Antarctica. Travel was his ultimate personal learning experience and through his travels made many worldwide lifelong friends along the way remaining in close contact with each.

Sorely missed by patients, friends and family, Dr. Bodner was a compassionate human being who always looked for the good in others and was the epitome of what a physician should be.
