Sondra Kay Martinez Tenreiro, 83, passed away at home on July 8, 2022, surrounded by the love of her three children who were by her side. Sondra was born in Sioux City Iowa but was most fond of the time she spent growing up on farm.
Sondra went to college in Des Moines Iowa, where she met her husband, Oscar, a foreign student from Argentina, at the age of 19. She was married shortly thereafter. She graduated from college with a Bachelor of Science, Majoring in languages.
She moved to Argentina where she spent approximately 20 years, raising her family. Sondra lived in Mendoza Argentina, where she is still remembered for her bold, unique personality and her indomitable spirit. No matter what kind of challenges she faced, she would confront them head on. When her husband became ill, she took over handling the ranches, driving cattle trucks to the selling markets, working in an environment not used to women and making it clear that she would never back down.
Sondra danced tango like a professional and everyone would stop to watch her and her husband spin around the floor. She was happiest when on a horse or at the ranch. She was a dreamer of big dreams.
Sondra came back to the USA in 1981 and had several jobs, eventually becoming a paralegal working for her oldest daughter. She retired in 2002. Sondra loved being involved in her granddaughters’ dance events and sewing costumes for her grandchildren. Her artistry with quilts will also be forever cherished.
Her husband Oscar Joaquin Martinez Tenreiro, her parents, Alvin H Kamm and Lois Kamm, and her granddaughter Ninoska Martinez Tenreiro precede Sondra in death.
Sondra will be greatly missed by her children Francisco Martinez Tenreiro (Xiomara Martinez Tenreiro), Elsa Martinez Tenreiro (Steven Theis), Valeria Martinez Tenreiro (Daniel Pia); her grandchildren Miguel Martinez Tenreiro (Ashley Martinez Tenreiro), Esteban Martinez Tenreiro, Alexandra Tenreiro Theis, Samantha Tenreiro Theis, Ariana Pia and Lorenzo Pia and her siblings, Dick D. Kamm, Rick R. Kamm and Rhonda Kamm Cunningham as well as her best friends, Wendy Hall Kamm and Sir Lancelot DuSquiggles (Lance).
According to Sondra’s wishes, no ceremony will be held at this time, as she did not wish to have her death commemorated. However, we invite you to celebrate her life at a gathering we will hold, in honor of her birthday, on September 24, 2022. Please save the date. Relatives and friends are welcome to celebrate this amazing woman’s life with us. Please reach out to Valeria at vmar_ten@yahoo.com for location and time.
