Ramirez, Silviano Olveda

On Saturday, May 9, 2020, Silviano Olveda Ramirez, passed at the age of 95, in Gallup, NM due to complications associated with covid-19.

Silviano was born September 17, 1924 in Ignacio Zaragoza, Mexico.  He grew up on a ranch farming and in his young adult life worked in a silver mine with his brother-in-law, Juan Rascon.  In 1948 he married his wife, Elvira, and had 8 children.  They lived in Palomas, Mexico for awhile and in 1973 they moved with their 3 younger children to Grand Junction, CO.  There he worked as an orchardist for several years.  In 1978, they moved to Gallup, NM where one of his brothers, Santana Ramirez, lived and worked at Kachina Meat Packing before it closed.  He then went to work with one of his good friends, Rufus Whitfield, for many years doing construction work, among them, bricklaying.  Much of his work is still seen in Gallup today.  He was a hard worker all his life.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Elvira Ramirez; and two sons, Jesus and Joaquin Ramirez.

He retired in Gamerco, NM, tending his chickens and beautiful garden, and many people enjoyed the fruits of his labor from that garden.  He loved playing the guitar and spending time with his huge family.  He was a member of the Church of Christ and was in regular attendance until he got sick.  Silviano is survived by a brother, Manuel Ramirez of Chihuahua, Mexico; and children, Rosa Andujo, Manuela Flores, Grace Cisneros, Heriberto Ramirez, Rafael Ramirez, and Sylvia Ramirez Schmitt.  He has 25 grandchildren, 51 great grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren.

Due to current circumstances, a Memorial Service will be announced at a later time so family and friends can attend.
