A consummate mother and homemaker, Shirley was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends. Over the years she collected and sold jewelry She also loved to read anything she could get her hands on. She was also a sports fan and always rooted for the Broncos every week. Shirley loved her family and friends and always lent a helping hand to anyone who needed it. Music, outdoors, spending time with family and friends and travel were all some of her favorite things.

Mrs. Rivera passed away after a brave battle with cancer Sunday, May 28th, 2017 at her home in Commerce City, CO. Shirley Daisy Rivera was born May 26th, 1946 in Denver, Colorado the daughter of Paul and Sadie Apodaca. She was united in marriage to Ronald J. Rivera Sr in Denver, Colorado June 22nd, 1963. They were married for 54 blissful years.

Everyone close to Shirley lovingly cared for her the last year of her life. Especially Jody who helped her during many a long night . The family gives her and everyone else who cared for her their greatest and sincerest gratitude.

Shirley is survived by her husband Ronald J. Rivera Sr.; children Ronald James Rivera Jr. (Ana) of San Diego, CA, Michael Paul Rivera Sr. of Denver, CO, Christina Nava of Denver, CO, Jim Rivera (Crystal) of Raton, New Mexico; her sister Anne Duran of Denver, CO, and brother Ben Apodaca of Long Beach, CA; 12 loving grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brother Paul Apodaca .
