Shirley Alvarez

Shirley Eleanor (Christensen) Alvarez, 80, was granted her angel wings on November 8, 2016. Her final moments were spent surrounded by family. She was born on June 27, 1936 in Duluth, Minnesota to the late Bill & Ruth Christensen.

Shirley graduated with the Denfeld Duluth Minnesota High School Class of 54. Her last job was an Auditor for 20 years at Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, CO. She was a volunteer at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, WIPS, and also helped every year with the Gem and Mineral Show. She loved outdoors, nature and loved to travel.

Shirley was a member of Unity on the Avenue. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend who will be dearly missed.

She is preceded in death by her brother Bob and is survived by her son Mario W. Alvarez (Rachel), granddaughter Ashley A. Alvarez, great granddaughter Leilani I. Alvarez, and her significant other Norman "Russ" Anderson as well as a host of cousins, church family and friends.

There will be a Memorial service at Unity on the Avenue 4670 E. 17th Ave. Denver, CO 80220 on Sunday November 13, 2016 at 3pm. A gathering of family and friends will be directly after the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, Shirley requested that memorial contributions be sent to Unity on the Avenue building fund.
