It is with a heavy heart that we say good bye to a much-loved mother, sister, fiancé and friend. Sherri Lynn Snowden formally Sherri Lynn Fischer, born August 10, 1956 was tragically taken from us on Monday night, September 11th, 2017, when she ended her own life. Sherri is survived by daughter Brooke Fischer, sister Donna Conly, fiancé Mike Walker, niece Tammy Schultz, nephews Rick and Robert Schultz and extended family.
In her youth, she invented the four-day work week, never managing to go to school five days in a row! By the time high school rolled around she had HER routine down pat. Her father Rip would deliver her at the front door and she would walk in and then out the backdoor without pause. She was too smart to go down the traditional path to graduation, she got her GED and went on to study civil engineering in college.
A wild child through and through, Sherri was a pioneering woman, often years ahead of her time breaking stereotypes for women. She was a machinist at Electron Corporation in Littleton, CO at a time when women were not appreciated in a man's position. She proved her worth through hard work and dedication, becoming a respected member of the Electron family for over 20 years.
American Eagle/American Airlines in Florence, KY and Denver, CO was her dream job allowing her to travel the world with her second husband. Ireland was one of her favorite places, they traveled there often, while working for American Eagle. On 9/11 she played a pivotal role in coordinating the unaccompanied minors traveling. She was able to get them safe accommodations, chaperons and in contact with their worried families. She was recognized for her service that day and it was one of her proudest accomplishments.
After leaving American Airlines, she sought her next big dream job.... That would be Arapahoe County Sheriff's Department. She often enjoyed showing off her stealth hand cuffing skills on unsuspecting deputies. She frequently spoke fondly of her team members who she felt so connected with, often referring to them as the ‘A' team.
Sherri's interests also reflected her pioneering personality. 40 years ago, she rode her own motorcycles, at a time when women sat only on the back. She was an Annie Oakley of her day, shooting guns, getting tattooed and saving animals of all sorts along the way. She dedicated her time as a mother, teaching Brooke how to be a strong independent woman, encouraging her to make big goals and supporting the road to achieving them. She was never above accepting the challenge of an epic water fight, a serious miniature golf tournament or a night of Stoli Dolis in the back yard.
One of her greatest joys in life was soaking in the picturesque views from her fiancé, Mike's, deck in Divide, CO with her two dogs Nicholas and Jelly and Cat Boo in tow. They participated in many annual events that included homage to American Veterans/POW Motorcycle Ride, Buffalo Soldiers, and law enforcement. They spent a lot of time perfecting the art of Queing and smoking ribs. A recent hobby they shared was a couples cooking classes. She could have been the Head Chef Instructor. She would turn to Mike and brag about her "Knife Skills" as Mike bled from cutting himself with his knife. Mike always said Sherri was a people person and there were no strangers. Her ability to converse with inmates was spectacular, poetry in motion.
We want to thank Chief Vince Line, Captain Jared Rowlison, Lieutenant Steve Rowland, Senior Deputy Kirk Elledge, Medical Investigator Sarah Saile and Victim Assistant Coordinator Renee Grengs for caring enough for Sherri to deliver this heartbreaking information in person. The compassion shown to us in those initial moments and the support following the tragic news will never be forgotten. We will forever be grateful to all of you.
We will be celebrating Sherri Snowden's life with an open house memorial on Sunday September 24th from 12:00pm to 6:00pm at Donna Conly's home: 2791 S. Fairfax St. Denver, CO. 80222.
Please come; eat, drink and share stories with us about your times with this amazing woman, as she will always be remembered for her commanding presence through her unique turn of phrase and sarcastic wit.
