Shawn Barbara Roy

Shawn Barbara Roy (née Hauter) was born on July 3, 1962 in Alexandria, VA to Patricia Lewis and George Hauter. She was the eighth of nine children! Shawn was known fondly as the “movie star” by her siblings for her outgoing and charismatic personality. Shawn spent her early childhood in Northern Virginia and moved to Colorado with her family in 1975. After high school, Shawn explored and enjoyed life in Colorado, Texas, West Virginia to attend Shepherd University, New Jersey, and the Cayman Islands before eventually returning to Colorado. Each place she lived, she gathered friends that she kept in touch with for the rest of her life.

In 1998 she met the love of her life, Jeff Roy. They married in 2000 and went on to have daughters, Shyla and Sydny, raising them in Littleton, Colorado. Both Shawn and Jeff have eight siblings (big family!). Together, they opened their home to their numerous relatives and friends, offering a place to stay and excellent meals to anyone visiting or moving to town. In addition to operating a family business with her husband and raising their daughters, Shawn was an avid runner, often taking the family dog on training runs. She participated in countless half and full marathons including marathons in Chicago, New York, San Diego, The Marine Corps in DC, and Denver. She was a big fan of Wii Bowling, and board, card, and yard games. She and Jeff grew a bountiful garden each summer, full of vegetables that were canned in the fall and enjoyed all year. Happy memories of Shawn include her bright smile, big and easy laugh, her peace sign she made in photos, and competitive spirit. As her daughters would say, she loved any activity where she could win! Most of all, Shawn was known for touching and loving many people. She made so much space around her to welcome others. Shawn is deeply loved and profoundly missed.

Shawn went home to heaven on December 18, 2023 after battling Cholangiocarcinoma, a bile duct cancer that is both rare and aggressive. She is survived by her husband, Jeff; daughters, Shyla and Sydny; the family dog, Soju; siblings Leigh, Kathy, Lynn, Mike, Wayne, Andy; mother-in-law Maxine; many brothers and sisters in-laws, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her mother, Patricia; sister, Robin; brother, George; father, George Sr.; and father-in-law, Gilbert. 

A memorial service is scheduled for Wednesday, January 10th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church: 6853 S. Prince St., Littleton, CO, 80120. A reception will follow the service.
