Dr. Selwyn David Goodwin passed away peacefully on December 26, 2024, with his family at his side.
He lived an amazing 93 years filled with joy, curiosity, wonder, love, creativity, kindness, and humor. His days were always filled with music, sports (tennis, race walking, and golf), conversation, reading, writing, and teatime with family at the end of the day. His was a life well-lived as a family physician, husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend. He loved deeply, cherished those around him, and spoke often about the beauty of each moment. One of his best known sayings was TIABD (this is a beautiful day).
Selwyn was born in London, England and grew up in Cape Town, South Africa. He earned his medical degree in 1960 from the University of Cape Town and practiced family medicine in South Africa until emigrating in 1972 to Portland, Oregon in the United States. After completing his residency in Portland, he moved with his family to Clovis, New Mexico where he opened a private medical practice and became a U.S. citizen.
In 1978, Selwyn married his wife Linda and together they raised a blended family of six amazing children. Later in 1985, a yearning to live close to the sea took him, Linda and their youngest children to Richmond, Virginia. There he continued to practice family medicine until his retirement in 1999. The final move for Selwyn came when he and Linda moved to Colorado in 2010 where they resided until his passing.
Selwyn is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Rachel Goodwin, and his two brothers, Peter and Norman Goodwin. He is survived by his wife Linda; son Paul Goodwin and his wife Christy; Karin Goodwin and her husband Roger Butturini; daughter Jackie Cramer; son Michael Goodwin; son Andy Sizemore and his wife Trish; Deryn Wagner and her husband Craig.
Selwyn was also fortunate to have been able to share his love and light with his many grandchildren and step-grandchildren who survive him: Christopher, Ethan, Ali Rae, Jack, Bella, Zelie, Aiya, Abby and Magnolia (Mimi) and Sequioa(Q-Bear). He also leaves behind many much-loved nieces, nephews, and friends.
Our beloved Selwyn will be interred at Mountain View Cemetery in Boulder, Colorado. A family celebration of his well-lived life will be held at sea on the Atlantic Ocean later this year.
