Ruth Tomlingson

August 3, 1931 — February 28, 2019

Ruth was born in Annapolis, MD to Commander Paul S. Slawson USN and Loretta Hassett Slawson. She grew up in New Castle, NH. Ruth graduated from Manhattanville College of the Sacred Heart in 1953. Later Ruth would serve as president of the Colorado Alumnae of the Sacred Heart. In addition, Ruth earned a Masters of Humanities from the University of Colorado Denver.

Aside from her dedication to her family and passion for travel, Ruth's actual ‘career' was a volunteer docent at the Denver Art Museum for 43 years. She was a recipient of the Cile Bach Award in 1988 for outstanding volunteers. Ruth loved the Denver Art Museum and shared her enthusiasm for art with everyone she met.

Ruth is survived by her beloved husband Paul of 64 years and her five children: Susan in Denver, David in West Virginia, Ann in New Zealand, Katy in Denver and Mary in Norway. Her nine surviving grandchildren include: Sarah Ashley Maingay in Australia, Tenison and Courtney Maingay in New Zealand, Gina and Loren Larson in Denver, PD and Tyler Tomlingson in West Virginia and Cecilie and Lydia Huser in Norway. She is also survived by two brothers: Paul S. Slawson (St. Helena, CA) and Jack Slawson (Philadelphia, PA). Her surviving sons and daughters in law include: David Larson in Denver, Rick Emerick in Denver, Micheal Maingay in New Zealand, Asmund Huser in Norway and Tiffany Tomlingson in West Virginia.

A Celebration of Ruth's life and mass will be at 10:00 am (Rosary 9:30 am) on Friday, March 8, 2019. Services will be held at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 4900 Montview Blvd, Denver, CO.
