Ruth Merriman

Longmont, CO - Ruth Elaine Merriman, June 15, 1931 - Sept 6, 2020, a loving Nana, Mom, Sister, Sister-in-law, and Aunt, passed away peacefully at Peaks Care Center of Longmont at the age of 89. She was preceded in death by her parents, Laurice and Earl Merriman and her brothers Frank and Robert. She is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Dick and Betty of Aiken, SC, one daughter, Margo Brown of Lakewood, CO, two sons, Steve and Doug, one granddaughter and great grandson, Kelly and Cal Brown of San Jose CA, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Born and raised in Melrose, MA then Bangor, ME, Ruth graduated from Bangor High School in 1948. After high school, she moved west spending most of her adult years in California and Boulder. During her retirement, she lived ten special years near her brother, Dick before moving back to CO in 2019 to be closer to Margo.

Ruth was an avid reader, writer and poet and spent most of her working years as a journalist and editor. She connected with many friends and family members through her writing and often inspired others in their poetry writing. She shared her musical talent and love for singing by participating in community choral groups in Boulder and Aiken. She continued to read, write, and sing well into her 80's keeping her brain sharp and her friendships strong.

Ruth loved the outdoors and was active throughout her life, regularly hiking and biking. She shared her favorite trails with family and friends. No hills were too steep, trails too long, weather too rainy or cold. She traveled with her hiking boots, and later her cane, always ready for an adventure. Even at the age of 87, she hiked with her family on snowy trails and frozen ponds in Massachusetts! She loved to learn, participate in book clubs, engage in discussions and share stories of outdoor adventures.

Ruth had a wonderful sense of humor and a beautiful smile. She was a loving and caring friend to many and treasured every relationship throughout her life. She will be greatly missed by all.
