On Saturday, October 19, 2019, loving husband and father of four children, passed away at the age of 80 at Swedish Medical Center surrounded by his wife and two of his sons and daughter in law.

He was born October 9, 1939 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Francis Helen Ashworth and Herbert Lafayette (Lafe) Snyder. He attended East High School in Salt Lake City until the family moved to Texas in 1955 and he graduated from Hillcrest High School in Dallas in 1957. He joined the Army Reserves directly out of high school at Ft. Bliss Texas. He attended the University of Texas in Arlington. He returned to Salt Lake City in 1960 and worked for Graybar Electric Company. He married LuAnn Nelson on September 2, 1972 and they moved to Denver, Colorado where he went into business as a Manufacturer's Representative and was a well respected sales representative for many companies. He and LuAnn spent 47 happy years together in Denver.

He was involved in the Boy Scouts for 14 years with his sons. He was the advancement chairman of Denver Troop 712 for many years.

The Masonic Fraternity was a very big part of Roy's life. He was a proud and dedicated Mason being a member and officer of several masonic bodies. He was initiated on 9/19/85, passed on 12/07/1985 and raised on 04/17/1986. His service to the craft and accolades included Past Most Illustrious Grand Master of the Grand Council of Cryptic Masons of Colorado (2016 -2017), Past Grand Orator of the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Colorado, Past Governor of Centennial York Rite College, Order of the Purple Cross, Knight of the York Cross of Honor (2015), Past Sovereign of Centennial Council No. 206 of the Allied Masonic Degrees, Past Wise Master of the Rocky Mountain Chapter of Rose Croix, Chair of the Makeup Committee at Denver Consistory, Viceroy in Mount of the Holy Cross Conclave of the Red Cross of Constantine, Member of Kincora Council - Knight Masons, Honorary 33� Inspector General, Member of the Crown of Thorns Tabernacle No. 28 of the Holy Royal Arch Knight Templar Priests, Past Master of Park Hill Lodge #148 (1990, 1992, 2004), Past Excellent High Priest of Triad Chapter No. 42, Past Excellent High Priest of Central City Chapter No. 42, Past Excellent High Priest of Georgetown Chapter No. 4, Past Thrice Illustrious Master of Gaines Greene Council No. 25, Past Thrice Illustrious Master of Tyrian Council No. 11, Past Commander of Georgetown Commandery No. 4, Treasurer of St. Bernard Commandery No. 41, Past Master of Memorial Lodge No. 1, and a Member of Research Lodge of Colorado. Roy was particularly known for his ritual work, having a keen memory to execute the work to near perfection.

He didn't run with the bulls or visit every country on earth or commit feats of daring-do. He took care of his family – cared about his friends – brought home many honors in business and Masonic endeavors. He avoided conflict and spread good-natured humor. Until the very last summer of his life, he mowed his own lawn because "he enjoyed it". He worked literally until his last day, never paid a bill late and was a man of his word. He would put on his coat and boots and go out with a flashlight in a storm looking for a cat who had run out, climb up on a ladder in the middle of a rain storm to make sure the gutters were clear. He would drive all night to get home in time for a baseball game or a Boy Scout camp-out for his sons. He traveled the Denver-Salt Lake City route countless times in 47 years to connect with family there. He cared about boys in the Troop getting their Eagle Projects completed, about fellow Masons advancing and would do all he could to assist them with their goals. He was the calm, the dependable, the caring center. He was a good man who lived a life that mattered. He will be missed by many.

Roy was preceded in death by his father, Lafe, his mother, Helen and his brother, James. He is survived by his wife, LuAnn, and their two children, Jonathan (Julie) and Timothy (Jen), his two children shared with his former spouse, Derek and Rory (Lisa), six grandchildren, his sisters, JoAnne Rice and Elizabeth Aadnesen and numerous nieces and nephews.
