Dr. Roscoe C. Young, (1928-2019), died on Friday, December 6, 2019 at the Hospice Building at the VA Hospital here in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He had just celebrated his 91st birthday.
.Survived by a son Peter J Young, from his first marriage, and his wife, Barbara Carmona-Young. They met as teenagers in the Bronx, New York, and were lifelong friends. They were married in Nashville, Tennessee, in 2002. Dr Young moved to Albuquerque, N. M. in 2003, where they resided in Encanto Village.
Dr. Young received his Bachelor of Science Degree from The City College of NY in 1951, and his MD degree from Howard University, in Washington DC in 1957.
He was drafted and served in the military as a Medical Specialist
during the Korean War. He later joined the District of Columbia
National Guard 115th MASH Unit. In 1957, he was commissioned a 1st Lieutenant, Medical Corp, 115th MASH Corp. From August 1960 to September 1962, he served in the 146th Evac Hospital in the CAARNG .
In 1961, he rejoined the DC National Guard, 115th MASH. He served as a General Medical Officer, Chief of Professional Services. His last tour of command included the deployment to Saudia Arabia ion support of Operation Desert Shield/Storm. Dr Young has served as the commanding General's State Surgeon in Washington DC on two separate occasions. Officially retired from Military Service on November 11, 1994.
Dr. Young Taught and Practiced Medicine at Howard University, Washington DC for 29 years.
Taught and Practiced Medicine at Meharry Medical College in Nashville for 10 years.
In 2013, Dr Young retired as Chief Medical Officer, here in New Mexico, from the United States Military Entrance Processing Station of the Department of Defense.
