Roger C Morones, 90, passed away on September 23, 2023.
Roger was born on December 2, 1932, in the small mining town of Clifton, Arizona. He was the son of the late Rafael and Francesca Morones (née Chavez) and was the brother to thirteen siblings.
Roger served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1958. While stationed in Frankfurt, Germany, he met and fell in love with Edith (Edie) Ludecke. They married on November 6, 1957, in Frankfurt.
After returning to the U.S. with his new wife, he completed his bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Arizona in Tucson. After graduation, he worked briefly as an insurance agent with Mutual of Omaha.
In 1959, Roger began his career with the Social Security Administration (SSA). He worked his way up from a Claims Representative in Long Beach California to an Executive Level Position in the Denver Regional office. He retired in 1992. When Roger started with the SSA there were only two or three Hispanic employees working for the agency. He was proud of the work he did networking within SSA and other Federal agencies to help increase diversity within these agencies. During his 33-year career with Social Security, Roger and his family lived in several states, including California, Arizona, Maryland, Montana and finally Colorado.
He and Edie enjoyed a long retirement in Colorado. Early on Roger worked briefly for H&R Block, often helping Spanish speaking individuals prepare their taxes. His main hobbies were gardening, fishing, golf, and watching sports. His favorite pastime was complaining about his home football team playing “Bronco Ball.” In his later years Roger was an avid gardener. He only grew two things – tomatoes and zucchini. August was an especially challenging month for his wife Edie: you can only eat so much zucchini!
Roger is survived by his wife Edith, his sons, Alan Morones (Lisa Morones) and Mark Morones (Krissell Crandall) and his daughter, Carol Farina (Samuel Farina). He was also survived by five grandchildren, Neil Haley (Katie Williams), Michael Morones. Joshua Morones, Madeline Morones, and Mia Morones. He is also survived by a great granddaughter, Elizabeth.
