Roger Childs

September 27, 1967 — March 3, 2016

Roger Harling Childs passed away March 3, 2016 at the age of 48 years. Roger was born on September 27th, 1967 in Glendale CA. He grew up with three sisters, ( Linda, Michelle, Patti), one brother, (Doug), and his parents Wendell and Evelyn Childs.

Roger met the love of his life, Julie Beth Childs in 1987 while in Orange County, CA. He completed his B.S. At San Diego State University, and Roger and Julie were married July 11th, 1992. While in CA, Roger and Julie were blessed with the birth of their two sons, Connor, (19), and Brandon, (15). The family moved to Broomfield, CO when Roger accepted his dream job as an engineer at Ball Aerospace.

Many things kept Roger busy throughout his life. He loved to water ski and snow ski. He had a deep love of space and everything associated with space. He had a deep faith and enjoyed being a part of the worship band in San Diego as a drummer. Roger loved all kinds of music, and shared his passion with all who surrounded him. Roger loved the mountains of Colorado, and enjoyed driving in them as well as hiking through them.

Most important to Roger were his two sons and his wife. Each one of them will always be grateful for the love they all shared and the time they had together. Connor shared:

"ALS is one horrible disease, as I
took many things from him and us
but one thing it didn't take, (and
never will), is the incredible
influence he's had on all of us.
Dad was a good man, a man I have
always looked up to since Day 1,
and it will stay that way. Dad's at
peace now, a much better place
than how things were down here.
Dad knows we will be ok."

Brandon remembered his dad with these words:

"I have learned so much from him
and was honored to have such an
Intelligent and wise Dad. His life
was too short due to the horrible
disease ALS, but he will be
remembered forever because of
all the lives he changed by
inspiring and teaching them about
the things he loved."

Julie would like people to remember:

"He was an exceptional man,
husband, father and friend. I was
blessed to be his wife. I will now
do my best to make him proud
down here on Earth. He is finally
at peace."

The family asks that you remember Roger the way they do; full of love, wisdom, vision, belief, and a little bit of mischief and infectious smile. Each time a story of Roger is shared, his legacy lives on. They request in lieu of flowers a donation be made to the Childs Family Fund on GoFundMe website. There will be a private life celebration at a later date.
