Roberta Gertrude Cade
Dec. 28, 1936 - July 10, 2018
Roberta Gertrude Cade, 81, of Arvada, Co., died July 10, 2018. Ms. Cade was born Dec. 28, 1936, on her family's farm in Osborne, Ks. She was a member of Arvada Covenant Church, where she held various leadership roles, including on the Missionary Committee, Benevolence Fund, and Growing Home a program to help families that were experiencing homelessness. Her faith was central to her being, which she affirmed in her will and testament: "Realizing the uncertainty of this life, and with full confidence and trust in my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in His death for my sins on the cross, and in His shed blood as an atonement for my soul, and knowing that by faith in His sacrifice on the cross for me, I have eternal life." Ephesians 1:7
Ms. Cade was raised in Colorado, the eldest of five siblings. She earned a bachelor's degree in English and a master's in library science from the University of Denver. She taught in Colorado and Wisconsin before moving to New York, where she served in several library leadership capacities, including Director of the Southern Adirondack Library System. She was a visionary in her field, advocating for the use of technology to improve services for library patrons. Ms. Cade was a lifelong learner with particular interest in other cultures. She traveled extensively throughout the United States and internationally.
Along with her faith, Ms. Cade's family and friends were of utmost importance to her. She hosted bridge clubs and other social events, and invited others to join her trips abroad. She had a sharp sense of humor and was fiercely independent; she had no trouble making her preferences and opinions known.
Ms. Cade was preceded in death by her mother, Elvira Jane (Young) Cade; father, Kenneth Dean Cade; and sister, Laura Lou (Cade) Clutts. She is survived by brothers William Robert Cade and Chester Dean Cade (wife Kay Cade); a sister, Cheryl (Cade) White (husband David Rankin); nieces Theresa Clutts, Janey (Clutts) Sterling, Laurie (Clutts) Walter, Bonnie Garcia Johns, Susan White and Mitzi (Cade) Galgano; nephews Jimmy Clutts, Gary Cade and Mark Cade; great-nieces and nephews Alec Cade, Sara Cade, Kymberlee (Cade) Long, Eric Duncan Clutts, James Clutts, Kristie (Clutts) Franks, Jeffrey Walter, Melinda (Clutts) Kiefer, Amber (Sterling) Longan, Wyatt Green, Dominic Galgano, Natalie Galgano, Vincent Galgano, Margaret Galgano, James Johns, Jermaine Johns, Jerica Johns, and Jolene (Johns) Smith; and numerous great-great nieces and nephews.
