Chef Robert Joe Saia passed away June 2, 2022 in Thornton, Colorado. He was born in Topeka, Kansas on September 22, 1965 the son of Carla Regehr (Stan) and son of Ronald F. Saia (Barb).
Robert attended Maude Bishop Grade School, Jardine Junior High School and Topeka West High School graduating in 1984. He attended Pittsburg State University and was an active member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and played the trumpet in the band. He also attended Kansas State University graduating in 1990 and received his Dietetic Degree. He had a passion for music, and loved to play the saxophone and the trumpet.
Robert chose a culinary path and received his Chef de Cuisine certificate in 1993. He worked as an Executive Chef for several hospitals, and also enjoyed the art of ice carving providing carvings for celebrations. Robert received his Certified Executive Chef Certification in 2016. He loved to teach, and worked with many talented apprentices.
In 2000, Robert met his current wife, Sharity Saia who he lovingly referred to as Mrs. Chef, as she was trained by him to be his Soux Chef. They spent 22 amazing years together, hosting hundreds of events and teaching culinary classes out of their home. He was a loving stepfather to Sharity’s son, Easton Barnes.
He was ornery, funny, goofy and a delight to be around. His smile lit up a room, and he was an incredibly devoted friend. He leaves behind so many that loved him deeply. His beloved wife, Sharity, his stepson, Easton. His mother, Carla Regehr (Stan), his father, Ron Saia, (Barb), his brother, Scott Saia, and his sister, Tisha (Saia) Cowen. His much loved aunts, uncle, nieces, nephew, cousins and so many loved friends.
He was preceded in death by all four of his grandparents and two uncles, Victor Saia and Bruce Moore.
CELEBRATION OF LIFE
Please join us for Chef Robert Saia’s Celebration of Life Ceremony on Saturday, August 13th beginning at 4:00 p.m. This will be a very relaxed celebration. We will have people speak about their memories of Robert starting at 5:00 p.m. and his brother, Scott Saia, will be playing all of his favorite 80’s band music throughout the celebration.
