Robert (Bob) Sterling Lucas, age 76 of Englewood, went to be with Jesus on
June 7, 2021, at his home, surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 1 pm, June 28, 2021, at Bear Valley Church, 10001 W. Jewell Ave, Lakewood, CO 80232.
Bob was born October 9, 1944, to Albert Leigh and Ella Ernestine Lucas, in Denver, CO, and grew up in Denver and Englewood.
During Bob’s elementary years, the Englewood Wesleyan Church was being built near their home, and he and his brothers would play around the construction site. After building a relationship with Pastor Edwards, the family began to attend Englewood Wesleyan, and it was there that, as a young boy, Bob gave his life to Jesus Christ. The Lucas family was deeply involved in the church, the kids attended Sunday School and youth, and, as teens, Bob and his brothers would transport the church kids to Youth For Christ.
Bob graduated from Englewood High School in 1963, the same year he met and began dating his beloved Janet Leone Wright. After graduation, he worked for some time then attended Miltonvale Wesleyan College in Miltonvale, Kansas from 1965 to 1966.
On August 20, 1966, Bob and Janet were married at Englewood Wesleyan and began their 54 years of life side by side. They were members of the Wesleyan church for over 50 years.
In Denver, they raised three children, Darcy Lynn (’67), Nicole Leone (’69), and
Robert Steven (’71). After working as a tow truck dispatcher and driver for Bob’s Auto, Bob and the family moved to Pierre, South Dakota in 1977. He worked for an irrigation warehouse and in roofing and insulating alongside his brother Chuck all while supporting the Wesleyan ministry there, often driving the bus for Sunday school.
In 1980 they returned to Denver and Bob worked many different jobs to support his family including managing an auto body shop and driving as a courier until he retired in 2019. Over the years, whenever someone needed help he would find a way to lend a hand. He did favors for his family and friends, and often knew someone who owed him a favor at just the right time. And he always had a pocket full of change for the pop machine or a cup of coffee or a gallon of gas.
To his family he was “always happy, always forgiving, always finding the best in everybody”. He loved kids, especially his 8 grandchildren. He was loyal, hardworking, generous, funny, big, and strong, and he influenced people for God in the profound, often-subtle manner of the wise ways he thought, spoke, and walked out his faith.
Bob is missed and survived by his wife Janet, daughters Darcy Pine (Denver,
CO), Nikki Cantrell (Elgin, TX), son Robert Lucas (Sheridan, CO), his 3 brothers: Albert (Sonny), Chuck, and James, his 4 sisters: Carol, Patty, Nancy, and Peggy, his stepmother Debi Hancock, and his dear grandchildren: Chris Aaron, Rachel, Kimberly, Jonathan, and William Pine and Michael, Jeremiah and Jessica Cantrell.
