Robert William Bob Cowan, Jr. of Centennial, CO passed away on the morning of 30 June 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on July 10, 1929 in Kansas City, Kansas to Ruby and Robert Cowan, Sr.
Bob graduated from Kansas City Public School system and then attended Missouri School of Mines where he obtained his B.S. degree in Mining Engineering. The Korean War caught him in the middle of his studies and he went to OCS to become a Navigator for 4 years. He met the love of his life, Joan Collins, and married in January 15, 1955. He continued his education with a master's degree in Petroleum Engineering from Tulsa University and an MBA from University of Chicago. Bob spent the bulk of his highly successful professional life in the oil and gas business.
He was a dedicated family man; had a passion for fishing, golf, cheering on the Colorado Rockies and the St. Louis Cardinals and socializing with his close friends in his retirement. He was a man of impeccable integrity and was greatly respected by all who knew him. He had an insatiable thirst for learning and obtaining new experiences. He and Jo travelled extensively throughout the world including trips to China, Australia, and Europe among others.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joan; Daughters Cathy C. Barry of Denver and Elizabeth C. Soule and her husband Scott of Boise. He also has 3 grandchildren; Edward Barry, Shelby Soule and Wyatt Soule; and one surviving sister, Betty Weiss of Kansas City.
The Memorial Service will be held on Friday, July 5, 2013, 11:00am at St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Highlands Ranch. In lieu of flowers please donate to Visiting Nurse Association, Heart of Caring Fund, 390 Grant Street, Denver, CO 80203.
