Robert Coutts

October 2, 1941 — November 25, 2021

Denver, CO

Robert “Bob” Thomas Coutts, 80, of Denver, CO transitioned peacefully at home November 25, 2021.

Born October 2, 1941 in Lazear, CO, Bob was the eldest son of Thomas and Mary (Leonard) Coutts.  He enjoyed a storybook childhood exploring Lazear with his younger brother, James “Jim” and older sister, Martha “Marty”. He was a graduate of Hotchkiss High School, Hotchkiss, CO, attended Mesa State College, Grand Junction CO and Colorado State University, Fort Collins, CO earning an Associates of Science.  Bob moved to Denver as a young man where he met and married Judith Murphy.  Together, they had two daughters, Dana and Kristen.  Bob was employed at General Iron Works, Sterns Rogers Engineering and Manufacturing Company and retired from Electron Corporation.  His expertise was in Iron Foundry operations for heavy equipment design and manufacturing.   As a young adult, Bob found immense joy traveling the country with his brother Jim.  Each year they toured on their motorcycles, visiting nearly every state in the contiguous US.  Bob loved all things with motors. His first build consisted of his father’s lawnmower motor which he secured to his bicycle.  He was happiest tinkering in his garage where, later in life, Bob spent many hours hand making over 60 wooden toy cars for his grandkids.

Bob is survived by his sister Martha Todd of Montrose, CO and by his two daughters and their spouses, Dana and Ann Shimkus; Kristen Engelke and Robert; and grandchildren Ty Engelke and Molly Engelke, all of Denver, CO. He was preceded in death by his brother James and parents.  In keeping with Bob’s wishes, no memorial service will be scheduled. Memorial contributions may be made in Bob’s name to The Dumb Friends League, 2080 S Quebec St, Denver, CO 80231  www.ddfl.org
