Richard Muhlenhaupt

Wonderful husband and father, Richard Charles Muhlenhaupt (Dick), of Littleton, CO, passed away July 13, 2015 at Hallmark Nursing Center in Denver, CO. He was 86.

Born on December 21, 1928 in Dubuque, IA to Christian and Hazel Muhlenhaupt. He was drafted into the US Army and served two years in Korea from May 17, 1951 - May 6, 1953, when he was honorably discharged. Dick was awarded the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars and two Overseas Bars. In his early life, he enjoyed playing tennis and won the Dubuque City championships in 1955 and 1956.

The first in his family to attend college, he graduated from the University of Iowa in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Dick worked as a Mechanical Engineer at the National Bureau of Standards (now National Institute of Standards and Technology) in Boulder, CO where he met his wife Beverly on a tennis court at the University of Colorado. They were married in 1961. Dick also worked at CVI - Penwalt in Columbus, OH, and at Lockheed Martin in Littleton, CO. Dick passed the Professional Engineering exam in 1975.

An avid dog lover, Dick and Bev raised Shetland Sheepdogs and Cardigan Welsh Corgis. Dick was an American Kennel Club registered obedience judge and enjoyed judging dog shows around the country.

Dick is survived by his wife of 54 years, Beverly, sister-in-law Mary Beth Muhlenhaupt of Bellevue, IA, daughter Kristin Arnold and her husband Bryan Arnold, of Littleton, CO; son Michael Muhlenhaupt and his wife Chrissy Muhlenhaupt, of Castle Rock, CO; and four grandchildren, Eliane Caldeira, and Emily, Jack, and Joe Muhlenhaupt.

A memorial service will be held at 9:30am on July 24, 2015 at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 3698 S. Sheridan Blvd., Denver, CO 80236.

Donations can be made to the American Kennel Club Canine Legislation Support Fund and PAC or a charity of your choice.

Dick will be sorely missed by all who knew him. May he rest in peace.
