Richard "Rick" James Kinzer, Sr. passed away on October 8, 2018 after complications of a stroke. Rick touched many lives with his kind spirit, contagious laugh and love for cooking.
Rick was born in Springfield, OH to Mary and Jesse Kinzer. Rick grew up with his brothers and sister and graduated from Catholic Central High School in Springfield at the age of 16. He started working for Bell Labs and attended Indiana Institute of Technology where he obtained his Associates Degree in Engineering. Rick met Susan Sorenson and they were married December 29, 1974. Rick and Sue moved to Houston TX where Rick worked as a drafter. Richard James Kinzer, Jr. was born in 1979 and Rick began his real estate career. The family then moved to Winter Park CO where Emily Mary Kinzer was born in 1983. At this time Rick flourished in his real estate career at Elk Horn Realty and enjoyed being an engaged member of the Lion's Club. Rick always had a love of the ocean. In 1992 Rick and his family moved to St. Maarten, NA. Rick began working the Pelican Resort and enjoyed as much time as possible at the beach and perfecting his fresh lobster tail dinner. In 1995 the family moved back to Colorado where Rick finished out his career in real estate and timeshare. Rick had a gregarious personality, a passion for food and was a talented artist. Rick's loving spirit will be missed by all who knew him.
Rick is survived by his children Richard James Kinzer, Jr. (Stephanie) of Castle Rock; Emily Mary Lord (Kevin) of Littleton; former spouse Susan Kinzer of Lakewood and grandchildren Juliet Kinzer, Gabriella Kinzer, Bennett Lord, Colton Lord and Hudson Lord. Rick is also survived by his brothers Raymond Kinzer (Ginger) of Houston, TX; Ronald Kinzer of Houston, TX; sister Anna Gawlik (Jim) of Houston; TX and nephews Robin Kinzer (Melissa), Michael Kinzer (Alanna), Severin Gawlik and Connor Gawlik as well as many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins friends and neighbors. Rick was preceded in death by his parents Jesse and Mary Kinzer, brother Roger Kinzer and granddaughter Grace Kinzer.
Friends and family are invited to a memorial celebration of Rick's life on Sunday November 4, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Eaton Senior Communities, 333 South Eaton Street Lakewood, CO 80226. (303) 937-3000.
