Richard L. Harden

March 7, 1935 — December 20, 2024

Centennial, Colorado

Richard L. Harden, 89, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 20, 2024, in Denver, CO.

Richard was born March 7, 1935, in Denver, CO, to Charles and Frances Harden. He graduated from North High School and earned his bachelor's degree from Colorado State College (now the University of Northern Colorado) in Greeley, CO, followed by a master's degree from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL. A proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, Richard served on the U.S.S. Boxer.

Throughout his career, Richard's entrepreneurial spirit fueled his success as an educator, licensed real estate agent, and investment advisor, driving him to establish multiple businesses. He held professional licenses as a public school educator and administrator, investment advisor, insurance agent, real estate broker, and multi-state securities broker. For 20 years, Richard dedicated his time as a volunteer board member for Gateway Domestic Violence Services, a shelter supporting survivors of domestic abuse.

Richard embraced life with curiosity. An avid traveler, he found joy both in the mountains and at the beach. He was often seen sporting his signature cowboy hat and jeans, embodying his adventurous spirit. As a Commercial Pilot's License holder, he cherished the years spent flying his Cessna, and later in life, found pleasure in watching aircraft at Centennial Airport. He was an enthusiastic bicyclist who enjoyed riding in the mountains and was an active member of a mine rescue team. Richard's love for sailing and relaxing on the beach was matched only by his appreciation for music. He especially enjoyed sharing a warm beer and hamburger at the American Legion.

Richard had a knack for bringing his family into his professional world. When he wanted their attention, he would always call them by their first and middle names. He encouraged his children to follow in his sales footsteps, often taking them to business networking events and Toastmasters meetings, instilling in them the value of building connections and confidence.

He is survived by his children: daughter Theresa Burnett (Mike) and grandchildren Alec and Haley Salmen; daughter Cindy Burch (Russ) and grandchildren Albie, Jessica, and McKenzie (David Bulgerin); and son Stephen Harden (Heidi) and grandchildren Connor, Laura, and Bryan. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his brother James Harden, and his son David Harden.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to University Hills Lutheran Church. Special thanks to Barbara Hehn for her friendship and to the caregivers at Highline Acute Care for their compassionate care.

Richard will be remembered for his outgoing personality and love for connecting with others.
