Perry Drake

May 18, 1957 — October 6, 2017

Beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Perry Monroe Drake, died Friday, October 6, 2017, in Aurora, CO. A native of Salt Lake City, UT, Perry was born on May 18, 1957 to Clara Bell Drake and Walter Drake Sr. He attended West High School and graduated from Utah State University, where he played middle linebacker for the Utah State Aggies and studied Radio and Television Broadcasting.

After graduating, Perry played semi-pro football for Yuba City, California's Twin Cities Cougars. The Cougars went on to win the National Semipro Championship, keeping Perry's football career alive. In March of 1981, Perry came to Denver to try out for the Denver Broncos, and was invited to attend mini-camp. He then signed with the Broncos to move on to the regular training camp. He was cut shortly before the start of the regular season.

Perry went to work as a photo-journalist at KTVX in Salt Lake City. He moved to Denver permanently in the 1980's where he worked for both the local ABC and Fox affiliates. He earned several awards, including three Rocky Mountain Emmys. Perry started Rock Steadi Productions in 2003.

An award-winning athlete and all-around sportsman, Perry enjoyed mountain biking and weight lifting in addition to football.

He attended Colorado Community Church.

Perry is survived by three children, Darius McCormick (Shelbi), Arika Drake and Kaiyah Lawrence; grandchildren, Braxton and Peyton McCormick; brother, Paul (Jacinta); sister, Betty Wright (Dennis); nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Susan and Winona.

Perry was dearly loved and will be missed.

A Memorial service will be held at 12Noon, on Wednesday, October 25, at Colorado Christian Fellowship, 10630 E. Iliff Ave., Aurora, CO 80014.
