Peggy King

September 28, 1949 — January 22, 2015

Peggy Anne King (Kellogg), 65 passed away Thursday January 22, 2015 at home surrounded by family and friends.

Peggy was born September 28th, 1949 at St. Joseph Hospital in Denver, Co. She was the third of eight children of Jeanne and John Kellogg. She attended Central High School in Aurora and was part of the pep club. She graduated in 1967 and went on to study at Porter Hospital in Denver to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. Peggy's first nursing job was at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center; during her work there she, other staff, and GI vets that had returned from Vietnam would deliver Thanksgiving and Christmas meals to wounded paraplegics.

Not long after becoming a nurse, Peggy got married to Maurice King in May 1970; Soon followed a son Neal, another son Eric, and a daughter Vivian. Peggy was a stay at home mom for years making sure her children grew up in a loving wonderful home; going on annual family camping trips to Ogallala & Lake McConahay, or motor home trips across the country and into Canada. She was a Cub Scout den leader for her boys for years, and also assisted in the Brownies for her daughter, not to mention numerous PTA's, and many other school functions and activities with/for her kids. In addition to participating in her kids activities, Peggy was always ‘crafty'. She taught herself how to sew, knit, crochet, cook, and also learned how to professionally decorate cakes and create floral arraignments. There was never any project/activity she wasn't will to try.

Throughout her life, Peggy was always there for others. She shined in a crisis and would lend a helping hand to anyone in need. After her mothers unexpected death early in life she helped care for her siblings and assisted her father whenever needed. She always jumped whenever an opportunity arose to help nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and any friend or family member whenever the call came in. Not to mention our furry and feathered friends Peggy rehabilitated injured and abandoned wild life for many years including finches, sparrows, pigeons, and two infamous squirrels, Mr. Magoo and Bullwinkle.

In July 1989 Peggy suffered the tragic loss of her son Neal, but managed to overcome for the benefit her remaining children.

Peggy went back to work prior to divorcing and worked as a nurse for the Immigration and Naturalization Service. She went on to be an assistant Kindergarten teacher at the Jewish Community Center in Denver and loved every minute of it. After a couple of years she couldn't deny her desire to care for others and went back to work as a nurse in numerous long term care facilities. She retired after 15 years at Cherry Creek Nursing Center in Aurora.

In 2005 Peggy was blessed with a granddaughter, Alexis. Which began her most favorite chapter of her life...being a grandma. In 2008 she was blessed with a grandson, Aiden and then another grandson, Douglas in 2010. These children were truly her greatest joy. She would brag of them at any opportunity and spending time with them was the highlight of her day.

Peggy had struggled with health issues the last years of her life, with this last year being particularly difficult for her. In the end liver failure and congestive heart failure claimed her life and took her ‘home' to be reunited with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and those that preceded her in death; Parents Jeanne and John Kellogg, Son Neal King, Sister Joanne Kellogg, Brother Daniel Kellogg, Niece Cassandra Freel, and Brother-in-Law William Spindler.

She is survived by her son Eric King his wife Ann, their children Alexis and Aiden. Her daughter Vivian Hanley her husband Peter, their son Douglas, step grandchildren Nichole, Monica, and Cody; Siblings Jeanne, Robert, Patricia, Mary, and Michael. As well as numerous brother & sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews, great nieces, family, and friends.

Services for Peggy will be held at St. Therese Catholic Church at 1243 Kingston Street, Aurora, CO 80010. Thursday January 29th, 2015; Rosary at 1:00, with the funeral mass to follow at 1:30.

Internment to be at Fairmont Cemetery at a later date which will be private.
