Patsy Ruth Shanahan

Patsy Ruth Shanahan of Denver, Colorado passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 29, 2018. She was born on January 8, 1927 in Denver. Patsy was the loving daughter of Leslie and Thena Belle Glanville.
She grew up in Denver attending Ashley Elementary School, Smiley Junior High School and East High School, before attending the University of Colorado in Boulder. While at Boulder she was a proud member of Delta Gamma Sorority, and a long-time and loyal Delta Gamma alumnae.
Patsy was an exceptional artist. She was very talented in both oil and water color medium. Patsy was also a very skilled and accomplished sculptor. She also loved to needle point, creating many beautiful pieces of needle point artwork.
Patsy was predeceased by her loving husband Robert H. "Shany" Shanahan, the Co-Publisher of the Denver Post, after 53 years of marriage. They were married in Denver in 1947.
Patsy and Shany had three sons, Kevin (Connie) of San Francisco, Tim (Donna) of Seattle, and Brian of Bend, Oregon, and a daughter, Marypat Shanahan of Denver (deceased). Patsy and Shany were active members of Cherry Hills Country Club and the Denver Athletic Club. Patsy was a long-time and very active member of the Southern Hills Garden Club, and very engaged volunteer with the Salvation Army in Denver, leading and organizing their annual Doll Tea fundraiser for many years. Patsy was a parishioner of both Most Precious Blood Catholic Church and Mother of God Catholic Church during her lifetime.
Patsy is also survived by four grandchildren: Patrick (Natalie), Caitlin, Casey and Riley, and two Great Grandchildren, Connor and Charlotte.
A memorial service will be held on November 3, 2018 at Horan & McConaty Mortuary, 1091 South Colorado Blvd. (at Mississippi Ave.) Denver, Colorado. In lieu of flowers, please donate to The Denver Salvation Army or the Alzheimer's Association.
