Nathaniel Lee McLaughlin
“Nate” McLaughlin, 91 passed away peacefully on June 21, 2022 in Denver, CO with his niece Eve Katz holding his hand.
Nate was born in Las Cruses, NM on Dec. 16, 1930. He grew up in Phoenix, AZ.
In 1950 Nate enlisted in the USAF. He was active duty till 1957 and was in the reserves till 1963. Nate got his high school GED while in the USAF.
Nate had a career as a commercial and residential real estate appraiser in Southern California.
Nate was a lifelong learner and an avid reader of history and biographies. He loved all animals especially dogs and cats. His passions were flying his glider plane and playing golf. Late in his life he loved watching all the golf tournaments on tv.
He moved to Denver CO to live with his niece in 2012. Nate was raised catholic yet after a couple of years living with Eve he developed a very strong faith. He enjoyed praying for others.
Nate loved a good martini with seafood and potatoes. He didn’t like vegetables yet loved sweets and enjoyed coffee.
Nate spent lots of time on Facebook connecting with other glider pilots around the world. He would send messages/stories daily to his family and friends, that they would be interested in, to let them know he was thinking about them.
Nate is preceded in death by his parents, Ellsworth and Irene McLaughlin, two brothers and their wives, Harry (Lorraine) McLaughlin, Bill (Ginger) McLaughlin. His partner and best friend Lou and his wife Sally Woodbury.
He is survived by his two stepsons, Robin (Alicia) Woodbury, Ryan (Stacy Mercado) Woodbury; his niece Eve Katz (Anthony Moreno), his nephews, Tim (Maura) McLaughlin, Patrick (Susie) McLaughlin, his aunt Margaret McLaughlin, cousins, Scott (Cindy) McLaughlin, their children; Sara (Michael) Kramer, Aaron (Jennifer) McLaughlin. Adopted family include Chris (Devin) Katz, Mike Katz (Nick Herrera), Jane Hascall, Becky Hascall, Michaela Hascall, Gene (Susan) McClure. Also many friends.
Memorial service is at 11 AM on July 29, 2022 at Eaton Senior Residences, 333 S Eaton St, Lakewood, CO 80226 with Rev. Brian Henderson officiating. Graveside ceremony is following at 1:30 PM at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 4400 W Kenyon Ave, Denver, CO 80236.
