Mildred Snow

March 11, 1926 — February 7, 2019

Mildred Pauline Bailey Snow went home to her Lord on February 7, 2019 at the age of 92. She was born in Portsmouth, Ohio (on March 11, 1926) to Thomas Raymond Bailey and Sylvia Pearl Virgin Bailey.

Millie graduated from Eastern High School in Washington, D.C. and received her baccalaureate degree from Wilson Teachers College in 1948. While teaching elementary school, she pursued a Master's degree at George Washington University. On March 24, 1951 she married Donald Jefferson Snow in Ft. Sill, Oklahoma where Don was serving in the Army. While in Oklahoma, their first daughter was born.

Upon Don's discharge from the service, Millie and Don returned to the D.C. area. While living in a Maryland suburb, Millie gave birth to two more daughters. In 1970, a job transfer brought Millie and Don to Littleton, Colorado. For the remainder of her work life, Millie taught in Littleton elementary and middle schools, specializing in reading literacy. After her retirement in 1992, she continued her love of education as an elementary school volunteer. A dedicated teacher, Millie was particularly proud of obtaining a government grant to fund the Reading is Fundamental program at The Gathering Place in Denver. For over 20 years she obtained funding for the program and matched the grants with her own money as well.

Millie and Don were active in the Methodist church in Washington D.C. and later in Littleton. While participating in many church activities, they made innumerable lifelong friends from the congregation. Particularly notable was a "Share Group" from St. Andrew United Methodist Church that met for over 40 years. For enjoyment, Millie and Don played bridge, attended the theater, traveled extensively, and spent time with their children and grandchildren.

Millie is survived by her sister Doris, her brother Thomas (Esther), her three daughters, Carolyn (Steven), Barbara (Robb) and Charlotte (Jeffrey) and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, her parents and her brother Donald.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 9:30 AM on Friday, February 22nd at St. Andrew United Methodist Church, 9203 S University Blvd, Highlands Ranch, CO 80126. A reception with the family will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be given to the "Compassion Fund" at St. Andrew UMC or Reading is Fundamental .
