Mildred Lewis

Mildred "Millie" L. Lewis, aged 89, entered into eternal peace on January 2, 2013.

Beloved mother of Carol Randy, and Cheryl Phil, grandmother of 10 - Crystal Troy, April Donovan, Anna Chris, Angela, Kim Greg, Terry, Jennifer Wayne, Jeremy Ana, Melisa Chris, and Jason Michelle, great grandmother of 27 - Brittany, Camden, Ashland, Tony, Luke, Lance, Joseph, Clint, Tristen, Chase, Mia, Riley, Madison, Kortlynn, Brandon, Donivyn, Hailee, Dawson, Gage, Leandra, Miranda, Andrew, Valeria, Justin, Spencer, Ryan and Makayla.

Preceded in death by her husband, Norman, daughter Jane Suzanne Suzy, mother, Ethel, sisters, Katherine and Joanne.

She was born on April 4, 1923, in Copperhill, TN. She was the only one in her immediate family to move from her hometown of Delano, TN.

Always telling everyone she would live every day the Good Lord gives her, Millie lived an active life, living each moment to the fullest. She sold everything from china to mobile homes and real estate. Her greatest passion and pride was a successful tailoring and imported clothing business she built from the ground up, "Millie's It'll Do". She would later use her absolute talent as a seamstress to shower her love upon her family, making outfits, blankets, leather belts, christening and wedding gowns just to name a few. Each stitch and hand sewn design spoke of her deep love for her family.

Millie loved to cook and thoroughly enjoyed reading. A book could be found on every table. A good mystery was her favorite. She dearly loved gardening, and her patio was covered with flowers and tomatoes every year. Her favorite saying was "I love to feel and smell the dirt on my hands!"

Yet her true passion lied with the outdoors, especially the Colorado mountains and the peace of a good fishing hole. Being outside was "food for the soul" and Millie loved to camp.

Millie loved animals, particularly cats. Her cat, Princey, was the ruler of the house.

Ever fashion-conscious, Millie was always beautiful in the latest trend much to the envy of her granddaughters. She will forever be remembered for her love of amethyst and Indian jewelry, the color purple and her stylish purple hat.

Oh, how she loved meeting new people. Millie became the confidant for many troubled souls on Capital Hill. She befriended and counseled so many. She truly impacted many lives – strangers and family alike.

Millie was dearly loved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed. She will especially be remembered for her quick wit, contagious laughter, spirit of adventure and the tenaciousness that allowed her many achievements in life. Her great love and beautiful soul will live on forever in our hearts.

For immediate family, a private "Celebration of Life" will be held at Cheryl's home Saturday, January 12th, from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm.
