Mildred Groom

Mildred Groom passed away at the age of 84 surrounded by her loved ones at home in
Westminster, Colorado on March 5th, 2023 from heart failure.
Mildred was born on July 6th 1938 to Hazel and Leslie Whitmer in Low Point, Illinois. She
graduated from Montrose High School May of 1956 and went on to study accounting. Mildred
was a business accountant at a telecommunications company for many years and after the
company closed, she did various accounting jobs.
Mildred met Keith Mizell in Rifle, Colorado. Mildred and Keith went on to have four children,
Keith Jr., Cheryl, Kay and Eric. After they went their separate ways in 1972, Mildred married “the
true love of her life” Roy Kenneth Groom on March 29th 1975. Mildred and Kenneth owned a
greyhound dog kennel where they raised and trained greyhounds to be raced. Mildred was
widowed when Kenneth lost his battle with cancer at the age of 53 on February 28th, 1982.
After Mildred retired she spent most of her time playing with her grandbabies, cheating at
Scrabble and planting the spring flowers.
Mildred was preceded in death by Dorthy, Charles (Walt), Leslie, Kenneth, Evelyn, Loretta and
Una. She is survived by her siblings Lois and Donald as well as her children Keith, Cheryl, Kay
and Eric. Mildred was a grandmother to 17 great-grandmother to 31.
Services will be held at Crossroads Church 10451 Huron St Northglenn, CO 80234 on Monday
March 20th 2023 at 12pm. If you wish to make a contribution, in lieu of flowers, please donate to
