Michael P. Maddy was born to Albert Edmond and Mildred Maureen on August 8, 1944 in San Jose, California. Mike was the 5th of 6 children born to the couple. The family moved several times and lived in Phoenix AZ, Amarillo TX, Bensenville IL, Old Greenwich CT, Owensboro KY, Tulsa OK, and finally settled in Boulder where Mike finished high school. During high school he was a gymnast, played baseball, was a Golden Glove boxer, worked at a gas station, was the senior class president and made life-long friends. After Mike graduated he attended the University of Colorado for a short time. He went to work for Montgomery Ward and then began a ten year career at Sears in 1965. At Sears Mike was the youngest Asst. Manager in the region. Mike joined the National Guard in 1966 in which he served 6 years.
In 1965 Mike was married and had son David in 1968 and then daughter Lisa in 1970. In 1973 Mike met the love of his life and on September 3, 1973 he married Mary Ann Ford and they have been happily married since. Mike and Mary Ann began their family in 1975 with the birth of daughter Bethany and in 1976 welcomed son Gregory. Mike and Mary Ann took great joy in raising all four of their children and have reaped the benefit of 8 grandchildren.
In 1975, Mike quit Sears and began his own business installing and remodeling kitchens and bathrooms. His business grew and Mike eventually dealt only in remodel work as a General Contractor. Through his perfectionism and rapport with his clients he became a reputable contractor who advertised by word of mouth alone. Mike and Mary Ann made close and personal friendships with many of the people he worked with . Mike took great pride in his work and craftsmanship and had a work ethic that could not be matched. He was honest and reliable with an abundance of integrity in his business and personal life.
In February of 2011 Mike was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. There was never a day that he questioned or feared his diagnosis. Mike never complained and took each stage with amazing grace and he never waivered in his faith in God. To the very end, Mike loved and knew his friends, family, and Savior. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
A memorial has been set up in Mike's name with Denver Hospice, 501 S. Cherry Street, Suite 700, Denver 80246.
