It is with deep sadness and a heavy heart that I announce the death of Michael Angelo Del Mastro, who peacefully passed away on February 24, 2018. Michael was born in Akron, Ohio to Nunzario and Pia Del Mastro on December 1st, 1929. Michael was the only boy amongst his three sisters, Celeste, Caroline and Josephine who preceded him in death. Michael prided himself on his Italian roots in Foggia Italy where he spent many years growing up before returning back to the United States to attend school with his sisters. For many years Michael worked as a carpenter to help support his family while his sisters attended college. After their success he then attended The University of New Mexico and graduated with a Bachelors of Architecture in 1973. He became a very well known Architect in the New Mexico area and worked for many years for the Bureau of Indian Affairs before opening up his own firm. During that time they acknowledged Michael for his hard work and dedicated a Albuquerque street name after his own last name. Michael was married to Janice Irene Croy on June 28, 1958 and seven years later had their only son, Andrew John Del Mastro. In 1987 he became a grandfather to Kirsten Amiee Del Mastro and then also a great grandfather to Demacio Gauge Del Mastro in 2009. After his retirement in 1994 he continued to serve his community and volunteered his time at the Metropolitan Detention Center. There he would pray and minister to inmates and greatly enjoyed his time there. Even thru his retirement he kept his architectural license and did odd jobs for the state. His hobbies included traveling, fishing, dancing and singing. He loved to sing and would enjoyably listen to Frank Sinatra and Andrea Bocelli anytime of his day. Michael had the kindest heart, he consistently showed his dedication, loyalty and love for his family and others. The world has lost a dear soul and is a tragic loss to his family and every life he touched. Services for our beloved Michael will be at Risen Savior 7701 Wyoming at 10am followed by a reception and then burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
