Melissa Kennedy

Melissa Ann Kennedy, 57, of Arvada, CO died Monday, December 30, 2013 in Exempla Lutheran Medical Center in Wheatridge, CO, of a pulmonary embolism.

Melissa was born March 1, 1956 to Elayne and Charles Underwood in North Platte, NE. She attended North Platte High School, graduating in 1974. She moved to Colorado in 1981 and worked for Mountain Bell Telephone for many years. She married Bruce Kennedy on July 19, 1986 in Golden, CO. Melissa was a devoted wife, mother and "Nana". Her family was her main focus and she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. One of her passions in life was music and she shared that passion by both teaching and performing. She was both organist and choir director for her church for many years. Melissa loved spending time in the mountains of Colorado. She rode the "Ride the Rockies" cycling event, a 400 mile trek, twice. Melissa dedicated her life to taking care of her family. Her family and friends loved her very much.

She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her husband, Bruce, sons Nickolas Jenny Campbell and Bennett Kennedy of Arvada, grandchildren Wesley, Ada and Zoe Campbell of Arvada, CO, sister Linda Tim Nygaard of Hanson, KY, great aunt Lena Economos of Denver, CO, niece Amy Medina of Norfolk, NE, parents-in-law Allan and Margaret Kennedy of Arvada, CO, brother-in-law Doug Kennedy of Minneapolis, MN, and grandchildren Wesley, Ada and Zoe Campbell of Arvada, CO.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Martha's Episcopal Church in Westminster, CO with the Rev. Stephen Wengrovius officiating. Internment of ashes will follow at a later date.
