Maybelle Helen Cage of Longmont Colorado died peacefully on Sunday December 21, 2014 of natural causes at age 92.
She was born Maybelle Helen Reeder on July 6, 1922 in Cincinnati Ohio as the daughter of Norma and William Reeder. Graduating from MacMurry College for Women in 1944 with a degree in physical education, she enjoyed activities such as softball, field hockey, dance, and synchronized swimming. Following a blind date and years of letter writing to an Army Air Force Captain stationed in India, she married Capt. George H. Cage on November 18, 1945 in St. Louis Missouri. They were blessed with four children and lived together in Webster Groves, Missouri until her retirement in1995 when they moved to Longmont Colorado to be closer to children and grandchildren.
Maybelle was the first female lifeguard hired at a St. Louis public swimming pool and held careers as a physical education teacher and as a very successful real estate agent for nearly 30 years. She was very active throughout life with family, work, and community and never knew a stranger. Even following retirement, she was a dynamic contributor to the Longmont Newcomers organizationand the Longmont Republican Women. Maybelle was active with the Methodist Church in both Missouri and Colorado, serving as church librarian in the latter for as long as she was able. She is widely known for her sparkling personality, warm energy, wonderful cooking and her love of life and family.
Maybelle was the loving mother of four children: Carol N. Crain, James R. Cage, Donald R. Cage and Douglas B. Cage. She was also the loving grandmother of ten (Patricia Lorman, Amy Chadwick, Jennanne Dougherty, Courtney Konkel, Christine Yormack, Janine Cage, Christopher Cage, Brendon Cage, Samuel Cage, and Aubrey Cage) and great-grandmother of six (Robin Chadwick, Reese Chadwick, Sophia Lorman, Avery Daugherty, Alden Daugherty, and Jaylah Yormack). She was a tremendous spirit, devoted mother, beloved mother-in-law, dear friend to many and will be missed by all.
Maybelle's interment will be with her beloved husband, George, of 55 years at Fort Logan National Cemetery. A memorial service and reception will be held at 11:00 a.m. on January 17th at Longs Peak United Methodist Church, 1421 Elmhurst Drive, Longmont, CO (www.lpumc.org). Memorial contributions should be made to the Longs Peak Methodist Church.
