Matthew Dutton Simcox passed away at the age of 43 on February 24, 2022. He was born on July 6, 1978, in Denver, to Phil Simcox and Kristen Dutton. Matthew graduated from George Washington High School in 1996 where he received an International Baccalaureate degree. Matthew went on to study at Carnegie Melon University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Information and Decision Systems. He returned to Denver to continue his education and earned an MBA/MSIS from University of Denver. Matthew pursued a successful career doing what he loved in business and data analytics.
As a child Matthew was curious of the world around him and showed amazing intellect from beginning. He always sought challenges academically and professionally. As an adult, Matthew had much appreciation for the arts. He enjoyed reading, listening to music, and building things from back yard fences and garden boxes to bird houses with Max. He loved being creative. Even when nobody could see his vision, Matthew could. Matthew met Leslie in 2007 and it was an instant connection. They welcomed their son Maxfield Simcox in 2009. They enjoyed trips to the mountains (Glenwood Springs was a favorite family spot), holidays in Texas, going on vacation to the beach, and spending the summers at the pool. Matthew was very supportive and encouraging of Max’s interests. He coached his soccer and football teams, was cheering him on during swim meets, and never missed a school field trip. Matthew cared deeply about his family and friends and considered Max the greatest joy of his life.
Matthew is survived by Father Phil Simcox; Mother Kristen Dutton; Son Maxfield Simcox; Wife Leslie Hakze; Stepfather Howard Rosenberg; Step grandmother Betty Dutton; Stepbrother Paul Rosenberg; Stepbrother David Rosenberg; Stepsister Hyla Rosenberg; in-laws Mary and Jerry Hakze; Adam Hakze; Maggi Hakze; and niece Alice Hathorn.
