Matthew Thomas Hopkins died peacefully Sunday March 17th 2019. He was born Sept. 30th 1957 in Columbia, Mo. to Mary Ellen and William O. Hopkins. Matthew grew up in California, attended college in Colorado, where he met and then married Michelle Barone in 1991 with whom he had two children. He owned and managed 3 successful businesses in the Denver area and in 2000 the family moved to Fruita, Co. where Matthew further pursued his favored profession as a woodworking craftsman.
Matthew had many interests and undertook them all with gusto. He skied fast, rode motorcycles hard, was an avid fly fisherman, hunter and outdoorsman, and a brilliantly skilled craftsman. He lived with great energy and high spirits. Always the instigator, if there was something fun going on, you could find Matt right in the middle of it. He could tell a funny story like no other, often recounting an unending stream of his own hilarious misadventures (he had many). His charm and magnetism kept him in good company throughout his life and he leaves us well loved - and very much missed - by all.
Matthew is survived by his children William Matthew Hopkins (29) and Jennifer Ellen Hopkins (27), grandchildren August (4) and Ellie (2), five siblings and his father.
His light, his love and his funny stories also live on.
