Mary Louise Wehmer passed away early Thursday, February 13, 2014. She is survived by her son Gregg Cynde Wehmer of Denver, CO, and daughter Jean Kenneth Smith, grandson Kenneth Brandy Smith Jr., granddaughter Kelley Simon, and great-grandson Kane Simon all of Mansfield, TX. She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Elmer Herman Hap Wehmer. Memorial services will be held on Sunday, February 16, 2014 at 4 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 6767 E. Orchard Road, Greenwood Village, CO 80111. Flowers may be sent to 3171 S. Monaco Circle, Denver, CO 80222. Following the memorial service, they will be distributed to her older and infirmed friends.
Mary Lou was born in Canton, OH to Howard and Curtis Connor Johnson, and spent her childhood in Louisiana and Texas. She later moved to Los Angeles where she met and married Hap Wehmer in July, 1949, and shortly thereafter they moved to Nebraska near his family farm in Sterling, Nebraska. Afterward, they moved to Texas where they spent time in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area and in Houston.
Mary Lou was always an ardent student of the Bible and had many sincere questions for which she had long sought satisfactory answers. She and Hap began studying the Bible with Jehovah's Witnesses and were both baptized on October 2, 1954 at Loy Lake near Sherman, Texas.
Mary Lou loved teaching people about Jehovah God and his loving promises of a future paradise here on earth. She was zealous in her ministry and conducted Bible studies right to the end. Her spunk and humor drew many people, and she had a soft spot for Jehovah's creations, most especially animals. She had a big heart with a practical and realistic attitude – all of which served her well throughout her long and productive life. Anyone who came in contact with Mary Lou knew she had a very strong faith, and you could often find her planning very specifically about her life under God's Kingdom such as the design of her home to accommodate her love of ballroom dancing. She was a lively and positive "gem of a gal" and will be missed by many.
