Mary M. Norrish

Mary Margaret Norrish (Margy), 76, passed away October 9th, at home, after a two year struggle with Cancer.
Born in Massillon Ohio September 11th 1946, Margy graduated High School and trained as a Nurse.
Following her graduation from Nursing school, she joined the US Army as a young Lieutenant during the Vietnam war, stationer at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington DC. After her Army service, she attended George Mason University in Virginia, graduating in Arts and Sciences. She then qualified as a Nurse Practitioner in Anesthesia (CRNA) and practiced in Omaha, Nebraska and Natick, Massachusetts.
While in the Boston area, she met her New Zealand husband Ian, who was in training there and decided to take a long visit to New Zealand. After a year of exploring and travelling in the South Pacific, they both moved to the U.S, where she continued working as a CRNA and married in 1982.
Outside her work activities, she was actively involved in restoring their 200-year-old farmhouse in Groton, Massachusetts. During that restoration she decided to retire from medicine and pursue her growing love of art and textiles. She continued her extensive world travels to South East Asia, China, Indonesia and the South Pacific following her textile interests.
In 2004 she and Ian retired to Santa Fe, where she was active in creating a textile blog, plus presenting to local textile and quilting art groups.
Margy was an intelligent and caring individual, with a lively personality and a desire to help others succeed. Her volunteer activities included 1st District Court Appointed Special Advocate for children (CASA) and the Southside Library, Summer Childrens reading program.
Surviving in addition to her husband Ian, are step daughters Hillary (West Australia) and Sandra (Vermont), Granddaughter Jordan (Australia), Grandson Sam (New York City) Sister-in law, Chris (Ohio) and Niece Jenn (Ohio).

The Family of Mary Norrish has entrusted the care of their beloved one to Avista Cremation & Burial "where healing begins".
