Mary Moore

November 20, 1932 — February 19, 2016

Mary was born an "army brat" at Fitzsimmons Hospital to Arthur Lee Moore and Mary Lida Simons Moore, growing up on the base with her brother Robert (the late western artist R.J. Moore). She remained in the Denver area her whole life. She attended Colorado State University and joined United Airlines in April 1955, working at the United Airlines Flight Training Center. She supported the Ground School, Simulator Services, Avionics, Flight Operations Marketing and the DC-8/10 Fleet. During her time there she also was active in the Mainliner Club as president, vice-president and chairing several committees. A favorite project was the development of the employee store into the "Neiman Marcus" of mainliner stores. She was an adventurous traveler (spontaneously flying to Europe with only $30 in her wallet?), taking good advantage of the airline's employee pass perk.

Retirement in January 1991 didn't slow her down. She volunteered as a Denver International Airport Hospitality Ambassador assisting visitors, with the retired United Employees Association, Artreach and Four Mile Historic Park. She said volunteering kept her out of the shopping centers. She loved shopping so much that she requested that after death her ashes should be sprinkled over several shopping centers (sorry Mary, no can do). And boy did she continue to travel, gaining good friends everywhere.

In her later years she became engaged to retired United Captain Jim Hannah, and divided her time between Denver and Anacortes, WA, where Jim's family became hers (including a "great-grandson"). She leaves them (Karen, Curt, Dan, Kate and Nash Huber), and wonderful friends Mary McNeill, Jan and Bud Hains, Nan Glick and the Munekatas (Mary Beth, Al and Adam) behind as she moves on to new adventures.

Mary was a vital and amazing woman, breaking stereotypes and living a very full life. She will be missed, but we are all better for knowing her!
