Mary Elizabeth Carr, 98, of Centennial, CO, passed away on November 7, 2013. She was born to the late J.C. and Isla May Boyd on October 26, 1915, in Gatesville, TX, and was the loving wife of Louis who preceded her in death on January 24, 1974.
As a child, she lived in Texas while her father served as a Baptist minister and hospital administrator. She earned a degree in office administration from Mary Hardin-Baylor College, and began teaching high school students at age 19. She worked as an office administrator over the years, including five years with Martin Marietta. Elizabeth saved the best for last when, at age 65, she began working for Spring International Language Center. She was the honored "grandmother" to students from around the world until she retired at age 78.
Elizabeth loved music, the Charleston, flowers, scarves, and baseball. As a child, she travelled an hour for training in classical piano, played for church services, and she played piano by ear. Playing and singing hymns were a song in her heart. She would break into song spontaneously. A physical therapist walked into her room, introduced herself as Casey, and Elizabeth started singing "Casey Would Waltz." Her compassion was instinctive. One example was her care for Beulah, a dear friend and assisted living neighbor. Beulah was losing her sight, so Elizabeth cut her food and helped her eat at every meal. She was an ardent Rockies fan who loved cheering for Tulo. Elizabeth was intent on living her Christian faith in the way she loved God, the people around her, and worshiped with her faith community. Young at heart, always ready for fun and a new adventure, with a twinkle in her eye and an irrepressible sense of humor, she lived a very full life for nearly a century.
Elizabeth delighted in her family and friends. She is survived by daughter Diane; daughter Carolyn and husband Bill; grandson Clif and wife Nikki; great-granddaughter Lucy; granddaughter Chelsea and family; and dear friends the Max and Jacobson families. She was preceded in death by her husband Louis, son James Thomas, her parents, brother J.C. Boyd Jr., sisters Jennie Bull, Ruth Brown, Lucile Boyd, Ann Baker, son-in-law Mark, and dear companion Jim Klingensmith.
A funeral service will be held November 23, 11 AM, St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, 1401 E. Dry Creek Rd., Centennial, CO. 80122
